Dear Rosie Beaucoup,

Did you know that Chip Zdarsky's mother let him, nay, encouraged him to watch soap operas for hours every day from the time he was three years old?

Best wishes,

P.S. Love your blog!

I am shocked and delighted at this revelation.

This reminds me of a plot on "As the World Churns." Sadly, the character I'm thinking of dies when he falls down an elevator shaft (tragic and unexpected when you consider he had previously survived two flaming car crashes, a kidnapping by the local crazy woman - who turned out to be his long-lost twin sister, three marriages and a bar fire - he saved two small children before narrowly escaping himself).

I think watching soaps gives young people unrealistic expectations. An actress can be six years one month, a giggly sixteen year old the next, and by month three, she is executive director of her father's corporation - by passing college, business school, community college, The Apprentice...
However, having said that, Chip has turned out to be a fine young man (albeit one with a tiger suit in the closet).

1. I must point out that it is actually a Chewbacca outfit with the face cut out.

2. The only unrealistic expectation I developed from soap operas was that my evil twin may be out there in the world, waiting to wreak havoc on my life. Or possibly a good twin depending on how you view my manners and lifestyle.

Thank you, Rosie.
