Sock Addiction

I think I mentioned before that my sister. Heather, who lives on Salt Spring Island is a sock pusher and is unquestionably responsible for my addiction to knitting socks. I just finished my first Pomatomus sock and I feel so grown up! It is a teeny tad discouraging to think that at my great age, I have only just discovered the joys of sock knitting and how to work on complex patterns - the same patterns that are designed by very clever and very young gals like Cookie A., who has an amazing ability to envision and produce intricate and beautiful socks.
Pattern: Pomotamus Socks
Designer: Cookie A.
Yarn: Lorna's Laces Shepherd Sock

Making The Best of A Hard Winter

Saturday was one of those rare winter days this year when there was no howling wind and no freezing rain or rain after a heavy snowfall. The snow lay thickly on the trees all day and the landscape was truly beautiful. It was the perfect day for snowshoeing and Lucy Maud had a great time running ahead on the woodland trails.
Snowshoeing has the added advantage of making one feel virtuous once home for having expended so many calories breaking the trail. The exercise helps to balance out all the calories consumed on bleak, sleety, cold, icy weekends when making bread or buns seemed good for the soul.
