March Knitting
Despite the fact that we are still buried under mountains of snow here in Nova Scotia (affectionately renamed by its residents as S'Nova Scotia), I joined a needlework group this month at one of our local church halls. One week was cancelled after we received over 60 cm of snow in one day, so I have only attended twice and I am impressed with the number of people who turn out. They have about 65 members who knit, quilt, crochet, rug hook, or embroider. They group themselves at tables, chat, work, help one another, share ideas, etc.

We have been storm bound for so many days this winter that I really should have even more knitting done! These are a simple pair of black mittens to wear with my Strokkur pullover.

Sammy's Sunshine Sweater
When Sammy's oldest sister, Lucy, was due to arrive, I really yearned to get back to knitting, after setting it aside for many years to cross stitch. I bought lots of yarn (like a kid in a candy store) and not all of it worked well for the projects I had in mind. So some of it was set aside. Now, older and wiser, I can paw through the stash and make a much better match. So here is Sammy's sweater - made with Lucy's yarn!
I had in mind a pattern calling for sport weight yarn but since the yarn I wanted to use was fingering weight, I held two strands together while knitting. The pattern is knit in garter stitch ridge but I used plain stocking stitch as I wanted the main focus to be the stripes.
The only downside to knitting striped garments is the seemingly endless number of yarn ends that have to be worked or woven into the garment upon completion.

Sammy's Mother's Birthday

Happy Birthday, Sweet Baboo
Baboo in his grandfather's garden
Oh, sure, our baby boy is all grown up but we still think of him fondly as that sunny, almost always smiling, easy going little guy who loved cars, Lego, books, math, soccer, and basketball.
Baboo, reflecting on a radio news broadcast while he was eating breakfast:
"Mommy, why do so many people not want Baby Fay to get a baboon's heart? She'll get the heart AND all the love the baboon had in it..."
In May, there is going to be another baby boy Baboo. If he has half the happy, sweet disposition his Daddy had growing up, the family is really going to enjoy this next adventure.
