I stopped at two yarn stores in the city. At Romni Wools on Queen West (surely the largest yarn store in Canada!), I chose three colours of Létt-Lopi, an aran weight Icelandic wool.
I am going to use the wool to knit Isolda Teague's lovely pullover, Strokkur.
Blue will be the main colour and the stranded work yoke will be worked with the grey and raspberry colours.
It takes a long, long time to fully explore Romni Wools. There are so many yarns, ceiling to floor, and an entire basement given over to discounts, cones of yarn, etc. The Girls gave me a gift certificate so, with heaven knows how many sock yarns to choose from, I finally settled on these:
The following week, we stopped in at the Purple Purl, a lovely yarn store on Queen East. The lady there assured me that souvenir yarn did NOT count as stash and that, indeed, many people did not even count sock yarn as stash. With this in mind, I chose a couple of skeins of Turtle Toes by Turtlepurl Yarns:
This is not normally a colour combination I would gravitate toward but they had a sample piece knit up at the store and the wide and narrow stripes were very pleasing.
Also at the Purple Purl, I made one of the best purchases ever:
A sock bag with a loop that snaps onto a purse strap, belt, etc. There is another loop on the inside for the yarn to thread through while knitting. It is just the right size for a sock project - small and, oh, so portable!
On the road, I managed to finish one sock and get a good start on another:
